How Hooshga Began

EXIF_JPEG_T422Hooshga, “The Good News Turtle”, was inspired by the faith of a three-year-old girl, named Libby, and created in heartfelt memory of her short time here on earth. Libby was an orphan in the US foster care system until the Grohman family welcomed her into their home and hearts. She had a deep joy in her spirit that far outweighed the challenges of cerebral palsy. Countless hours were spent in her wheelchair flipping through the pages of her picture Bible with her favorite stuffed turtle by her side.

Libby’s health declined, bringing her father onto His knees with this prayer: “Lord, if you will heal my girl, then I will take her around the world and preach the gospel.” Jesus did heal her—by bringing her home to heaven where she is now free from every infirmity. Desiring to commemorate the life of their daughter led Chris and Melissa Grohman to connect with IC Orphans. Their discussion of Libby’s testimony birthed The Hooshga Project, which is now taking the gospel to orphans and vulnerable children across the globe.
